'In 1886 Brymner made his first trip by train to Western Canada, where he painted the Blackfoot Nation on their reserve in Gleichen, North-West Territories [now Alberta] and scenes in the Selkirk Mountains. William Van Horne admired these works, finding them less overpowering than the scenes he had commissioned earlier from Lucius O'Brien and John A. Fraser to promote travel on his Canadian Pacific Railway. He asked Brymner to make two painting trips in the West on his behalf, in 1892 and 1893." - page 388, Impressionism in Canada: A Journey of Rediscovery by A.K.
